How it Works » What the Books are Like
Up to 25,000 words long- Approximately 125 pages
- 230mm tall by 148mm wide
(about 9in x 6in) - About 16mm thick for hardbacks, a bit less for paperbacks
- Up to 35 photographs, black and white and colour, or scanned documents such as birth certificates
- Full colour throughout
- Top quality design both inside and out using Adobe InDesign, the industry’s best design software.
- The paper is 130gsm Vancouver Matt Coated - a high quality paper which looks good, feels good and prints well.
- Binding is folded and slotted, which means it’s strong and meant to last.
- Paperback covers are full colour on 280gsm board resulting in a strong, durable finish.
- Hardbacks have a full-colour dust jacket.
I’m using a long-established, traditional printing company which combines the best of old-fashioned printing with a modern digital press to keep down costs. Their binding is very strong and the print quality excellent.

PAPERBACKS

How the pages will look
The inside pages are the same for paperbacks and hardbacks. You can choose any layout you like. I usually recommend the typeface Garamond premier pro as attractive and easy to read.
Type is measured in points and I like 14pt. However, 12pt looks fine and is useful if the story is longer and you want to get more words on the page. Newspapers usually use 10pt.
In my books, there are no restrictions on where photos are used, so they are placed in the relevant part of the story. They can be both black and white and colour.
