I’m a highly experienced Yorkshire-based writer and can compile your memoir for you, illustrated with your photographs. The memoir - or whatever kind of story you want written - will be done just how you want it and the book will carry your name as author.

I begin by working with you to draw up a plan of what you would like to be in the book. Then I carry out a series of extended interviews during which you tell me your story. I use my professional interviewing skills to help you to tell your story in the best way and keep you on track to make sure we end up with a well structured book.

I ask lots of extra questions so the story is clear and interesting for readers. One of the problems faced by people who write their own memoirs is that everything is clear to them but not necessarily to others. However, you decide what goes in and what doesn’t. Clients thoroughly enjoy this process, taking a journey through their own story with the help of someone who knows how to turn it into a good read.

Once the interviews are completed, I use the tapes on which they have been recorded as the basis on which to write your manuscript. The manuscript is written  to a high professional standard but remains essentially your story with a strong, readable structure and polish. I check facts, spellings and dates.

Once you have corrected the manuscript and added in extra things you’ve just remembered (everyone does!) I use the top professional design software system, Adobe InDesign, to lay out your book beautifully. I can repair and enlarge your photos on screen. I will, if necessary, take a new, high quality photograph to create the cover. You will receive a second proof showing exactly how the book and cover will look. Once you’re happy with this, the book is printed as a set of high quality hardbacks or paperbacks. The memoir can be your own story or perhaps you want to record the lives of parents or grandparents who aren’t around any more, to get their story down into a book before it’s all forgotten. I won’t re-write your hard work but I can advise you on any useful changes to the structure, check the grammar and spelling and ask extra questions where I think something needs more explanation. I will alert you to any factual errors. If your memoir is hand-written I can have your words typed into the computer. You could have your book in your hands within three months.
